State University.) He was employed by a post-doctoral appointment funded by the National Science Foundation from 1965 to 1967 at Piracicaba, Brazil, working with Dr. Ernesto Paterniani of the Escola Superior de Agricultura. They produced a ground-breaking book on the diversity of races of maize in and adjacent to Brazil. As of June 1965, Major Mereland Goodman was also known as Dr Major M Goodman.
Dr Major M Goodman was employed by the Department of Statistics in 1967 at North Carolina State University, Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina, a visiting assistant professor working in the statistical genetics program managed by Dr. Clark Cockerham. He was promoted to assistant professor in 1968, associate professor in 1970 and full professor in 1976.
