     Emily Mortensen was born on 31 July 1926 at Brooklyn, New York City, New York.^2,3 She was baptized on 19 September 1926.² She married Martin Theodore Gassmann, son of Jacob Gassmann and Marie (- -), on 25 June 1949 at Yonkers, New York.^4,3 Emily Mortensen died on 10 January 2017 at Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina, at age 90.²
     Emily Mortensen was also known as Estella Emily Frances Mortensen. She lived at East 21st Street, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York, on 1 April 1930 with Paul J Mortensen and Marie Estella Mortensen.¹ Emily Mortensen lived at 645 East 26th Street, New York City, Kings County, New York, on 1 April 1940 with Paul J Mortensen and Marie Estella Mortensen.⁵ In 1947 Emily Mortensen lived at 22 Hawley Terrace, Yonkers, New York.⁶ She was an architecture student of the Advancement of Science and Art school in 1948 New York City, New York. After graduating, she was employed in the Graphics Arts field. Later she designed commercial logos and worked at Bell Telephone Labs drafting room.^6,3 As of 25 June 1949, her married name was Gassmann.² On 17 April 1950 Emily Gassmann and Martin Theodore Gassmann lived at 310 Lincoln Street, Englewood, Bergen County, New Jersey.⁷ Emily was confirmed at age 24, on 15 June 1951.² She served as Trustee for the Northwest Bergen Craft Guild and was a member of the Community Arts and Ringwood Manor Art Association. She was a craftsman and sustaining member of the American Crafts Council.
     Emily’s scrimshaw carvings have been shown throughout Sussex and Bergen Counties in New Jersey and Rockland County, NY. Her Batik art has been displayed to the public at the Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce Art Show, where she earned a ribbon. Her batik of a Native American won her a blue ribbon in an art show in Englewood, Florida. She also earned a blue ribbon for her pastel drawing of a young Honduran girl holding a doll. Her last blue ribbon came for an ink drawing of her cat, Muffin spilling ink on the same drawing. (Her son James remembered her telling him that she would have to re-draw it because Muffin did indeed spill ink on the drawing during the sitting. He felt it was appropriate to show it and describe it as is and to see how it was received.)³ Emily Mortensen was a very giving person who loved to see the world and traveled extensively after her husband passed away in 1984.³

     Emily Gassmann became a member of Grace Lutheran Church on 25 January 2009 at Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina.² She loved to sew and was part of the quilting club at Grace Lutheran Church.³

     Herta Margrete Henriksen was born on 23 March 1911 at Store Heddinge, Stevns Municipality, Sjælland, Denmark. She married Viktor Ejler Erling Danielsen, son of Carl Martin Julius Danielsen and Louise Jacoba Graziella Olsen, on 13 July 1941 at Store Heddinge, Stevns Municipality, Sjælland, Denmark. Herta Margrete Danielsen and Viktor Ejler Erling Danielsen were divorced. Herta Margrete Henriksen died on 14 December 1987 at Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina, at age 76. She was buried in January 1988 at Store Heddinge, Stevns Municipality, Sjælland, Denmark.
